Dear Members, Educators, and Supporters of Mathematics Education,
As we step into a new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work we’ve accomplished together and to look ahead with optimism and determination.
2024 was a year of growth, collaboration, and innovation for the Rhode Island Mathematics Teachers Association. We hosted enriching professional development sessions, fostered meaningful discussions on equity in mathematics education, and celebrated the successes of our students and teachers alike. Your passion and commitment have been the foundation of this progress, and I am deeply grateful for each of you.
As we begin 2025, our mission remains clear: to inspire and empower educators to cultivate a love for mathematics in every classroom. This year, we will focus on three key priorities:
-
Fostering Equity and Inclusion: We will continue our efforts to ensure that mathematics education is accessible and engaging for all students, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances.
-
Expanding Professional Development: Look forward to new workshops, webinars, and resources designed to equip you with cutting-edge tools and strategies to enhance your teaching practices.
-
Building Community: We aim to strengthen connections among mathematics educators in Rhode Island, creating a vibrant network of support, collaboration, and shared inspiration.
Let us also take this time to set bold goals for ourselves and our students. Mathematics is not just about numbers and equations; it is about fostering critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills that will empower our students to navigate an ever-changing world.
As we face the challenges and opportunities of this new year, I encourage you to lean into your passion for teaching and to continue being a source of inspiration for your students and colleagues. Together, we can shape a future where mathematics is a bridge to opportunity for every learner in Rhode Island.
Thank you for your unwavering dedication to our shared mission. Here’s to a year of learning, growth, and countless successes.
Warm regards,
Elizabeth Brownlee
President, Rhode Island Mathematics Teachers Association
