SUM, a professional learning series, is a program created in partnership between RIDE and the Rhode Island Mathematics Teachers Association (RIMTA). The intention of this course is to increase an educator’s ability to identify student gaps in the understanding of number, operations, and computation on whole numbers and decimals and support instruction in those areas. SUM training will help educators identify needs, select learning activities and use recording tools when ready to implement. Interested educators will need to commit to eight training sessions during which they will experience four learning modules, that can be applied in any classroom or intervention setting. Sessions will include:
· content knowledge development
· student work analysis
· video case studies
· sample learning activities
· student tracking tools
Participants will also have time during the sessions to create a plan to integrate SUM into their current school environment.
This eight-session course will be held on Thursday nights during the 2019-2020 school year.
